- Cucumbers distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales are being recalled.
- The cucumbers are connected to a Salmonella outbreak impacting 15 states.
- At this time, a total of 26 illnesses are related to this recall.
Cucumbers are being recalled right now, according to announcements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is due to the vegetables’ connection to a multistate-wide Salmonella outbreak.
The cucumbers impacted by this recall were grown by Bedner Growers, Inc., and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc., to retailers, distribution centers, wholesalers and food service distributors from April 29 through May 19, 2025. Outside of three Bedner’s Farm Fresh Markets locations in Florida, it is currently unclear what other grocery stores are impacted by this recall. Consumers are urged to call their place of purchase to see if their cucumbers are impacted. The affected cucumbers were sold individually and in small packages.
As of May 20, there are 26 total illnesses, including nine hospitalizations connected to this recall. At this time it is unclear which states or regions sold the recalled cucumbers, but the following states across the U.S. are directly impacted by this outbreak: Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Signs of Salmonella infection (also known as salmonellosis) may not show for up to six days after consumption, and symptoms can last from four to seven days. Common symptoms of salmonellosis include fever, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Talk to a health care provider immediately if you’re experiencing any of these symptoms after recently eating a cucumber.
