Jenna Fischer’s Go-To Snack Is a 3-Ingredient Classic

Jenna Fischer’s Go-To Snack Is a 3-Ingredient Classic

  • Jenna Fischer chatted about her current go-to snack on a recent episode of Office Ladies.
  • The actress shared that she loves combining Brie, seeded crackers and a piece of fruit.
  • Fischer also mentioned that her current favorite crackers come from Trader Joe’s.

Pam and Angela of The Office talked munchies this week on the latest Office Ladies podcast, a weekly podcast for Office lovers where the two stars, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, who are also best friends, discuss the show and, along with it, life. This week, the pair was set to discuss one of the show’s most beloved episodes, “The Dinner Party” with a couple others who worked on the show. But during the pre-interview banter, the former Officemates got to talking about food. Specifically, Jenna Fischer, who played Pam, chatted about a simple three-ingredient snack she can’t stop eating.

“My new favorite snack is slices of Brie cheese on these seeded Trader Joe’s crackers,” Fischer shared, before adding, “then I’ll put a few berries on the side.”

Kinsey wanted to know why the berries couldn’t go on top, which sent the two on a humorous exchange about whether or not a raspberry can go atop a cheesy cracker. The verdict? A slice of green apple would stay on top, but other delicious additions like raspberries and cranberries might be best left on the side.

The snacky conversation was inspired by Fischer’s mission to make a fun charcuterie board for visiting relatives that week, and this simple combo is an easy way to enjoy cheeseboard deliciousness for one.

And if you’re a fan of “girl dinner,” the cheese-fruit combo may be familiar and beloved to you, and it’s always fun to be reminded of this simple, balanced snack—and it’s definitely funny to hear these two friends discuss it in great detail.

It’s possible the exact crackers Fischer mentioned aren’t always available at Trader Joes, but you can make your own yummy, healthy crackers at home or pick up something that looks good at any grocery store. The seeds add a nice bit of texture to the smooth cheese and sweet fruit, though you could also opt for a sliced, toasted baguette or a simpler cracker.

If you want to vary your recipe or zhuzh up this arrangement, there are myriad options. If you don’t have fresh fruit on hand, jam, compote or another fruity spread will add a good amount of sweetness and flavor to the simple creaminess of the Brie. Fig jam pairs especially nicely if you want the whole bite to taste like a decadent dessert. Dried fruit adds a different texture than jam, but is usually sweeter than fresh fruit, keeps longer and can even be easier to take with you on the go. Dried figs, apricots or apples would all add tart sweetness to the combo.

If going with fresh apple slices, you may want to swap out Brie for cheddar, which pairs very nicely with all types of apples. For savory snacking (and some extra protein), add a slice of meat like turkey, chicken or another favorite. And if you go for something like prosciutto, you’ll find that it can swing savory or sweet depending on what you pair it with. Fruit or honey with salty prosciutto makes the whole bite taste fancy and comforting. Sliced almonds on the side can also be a fun way to add protein while staying vegetarian.

Like Fischer, you can also build out a fruit and cheese board for friends or family. Gather a bunch of options and let everyone mix and match. Fischer’s snack-chat reminds us that, for celebrities and regular folk alike, cheese and crackers can be simple and still feel like a cozy treat.
