- A product safety warning was issued for four faucets sold on Amazon.
- The kitchen and bathroom faucets may contain lead that can leach into water.
- Lead exposure can be especially harmful for young children and pregnant people.
If you have bought your home faucets from Amazon, it may be time to replace them. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced a product safety warning on four types of kitchen and bathroom faucets sold on the website. This is because the faucets may contain high levels of lead which can leach into drinking water.
The following four faucets are impacted by this alert, and they were sold on Amazon for $30 to $70. You may need to check your Amazon purchase history to see if yours is affected as these faucets lack labeling or other identifiers:
- VESLA HOME Kitchen Faucet, sold by VESLA HOME
- KZH Bathroom Faucet, sold by Yajie Sanitaryware
- CEINOL Bathroom Faucet, sold by CEINOL-USA
- Rainsworth Bathroom Faucet, sold by Le Chang SANITARY
Replace your faucet as soon as possible if it matches one of the above products. The CPSC states that if you’re unable to replace the faucet immediately, you should “make sure to run the water [for] 15 seconds before consuming.”
Lead exposure can be especially harmful for young children and those who are pregnant. According to the Food & Drug Administration, chronic lead exposure in adults can also lead to kidney dysfunction, hypertension and neurocognitive effects.
For questions about lead levels in your water, contact your local health department or water company, or visit the EPA’s website for more information.
